Reviews for Kenwood Inn and Spa

Just a wonderful experience

I can't say enough good things about this Inn. Our room (Courtyard King) was perfect. Fireplace, comfy bed, lots of windows to open, outdoor patio. Breakfast is delicious and there is a fantastic wine/cheese every evening where a local vineyard provides tastings. Staff were all friendly and helpful and the whole Inn is beautiful - outdoor fireplaces lit, fruit trees, flowers - it does feel like Italy. We took day trips to Mur woods and of course vineyards. Loved our stay here!

Perfection!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Our first trip to wine country and we stayed here. Probably one of our best decisions of the entire trip! Not only did we enjoy the wine and cheese hours each night and the breakfast each morning, the atmosphere and ambiance was perfect for sitting back and unwinding. It is close to the highway, so you can hear traffic driving by, but it certainly did not bother us at all - it isn’t like city traffic noise. The star of Kenwood is the staff and their attention to everything, and I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention their Concierce, Lim Ann. We connected with her prior to our visit and she not only helped us plan a wonderful stay, she facilitated it too, helping with not only suggestions and reservation details. We got our little piece of paradise to get away for a few days and what a memorable trip it was!

Good but lacking in some key areas

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

We stayed for three nights recently. The room was spacious and clean and the bed was very comfortable. Temperature was comfortable and well-regulated. The fireplace was very welcome since we had a rainy weekend. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. The property is attractive with a huge hot-tub and a nice pool (which we used despite the rain!). The room could do with a refresh and felt very dated and worn. A cautionary note is that the door handle is designed in such a way that fingers get trapped between it and the other door. I am sure many hurt hands have come from there!! We were underwhelmed by the breakfast area which I found small, cramped and stuffy. The food was good but limited and at the level of a Courtyard Marriott in my opinion. Very surprising that no cappuccino, espresso etc was available. I expect better of a "luxury" hotel. The Happy Hour was also a disappointment since it was basically a wine tasting of 2 sips of wine with some cheese and crackers in another cramped space similar to the breakfast room. Hardly the setting for a convivial hour. So, overall, we had a pleasant stay but feel we could and should have had a much better experience considering the cost.

The Good, the Bad, and the...well, it's time for another refresh.

Pros: The room was large and spacious, with adequate drawer and closet space, ample and comfortable room seating, a nice gas fireplace, and a very comfortable bed. The bathroom was large and had a jetted tub and shower. Outdoor spaces feature several seating areas near fireplaces and lots of pretty fountains. Cons: The Breakfast and "Happy Hour" areas were small, cramped and stuffy. The breakfast options were good and well-made, but more like a Marriott hotel breakfast line. No cappuccino or espresso, requiring us to drive and find a coffee shop down the highway every morning. This is unacceptable for a "luxury spa" and given the prices they charge. Our bathroom tile was cracked and appeared dirty; that was an immediate turnoff. Our room was allegedly an upgrade, but the view was onto a wall in a courtyard. Expect at least an extra $100 added to your room each night for the add-on taxes in California. We would have liked a larger, single gathering place for drinks and meeting other guests. Time for another refresh.

Lost it's charm ☹️

We just stayed here 2 nights to celebrate my father's birthday in wine country. This is a return trip for us, we stayed here a year ago at the same time for 3 nights. We loved our stay last year so much we had to come back and do it again this year. Unfortunately I'm so sad to report that things have changed for the worse. Breakfast last year was phenomenal every day, there was a chef preparing several hot food options (ie. lemon blueberry pancakes, omelette with veggies and side salad with truffle oil dressing) as well as cold choices like fresh berry compote on greek yogurt, house baked granola, the food was fantastic! We couldn't believe how special this hotel was. This year it was such a huge let down, we were all so disappointed by the food on this trip. We asked the woman at the front desk about it, she said they were making some changes, unfortunately it seems the changes are for the worse and most likely to save the hotel money. This is not a bargain price hotel, the rooms are fairly expensive, it was totally worth it when the food was top notch but now I'd say it is not worth the price. The breakfast now is more like a regular "continental breakfast" you'd get at any small hotel/motel.. it's such a shame. We've been looking forward to coming back here all year and are so sad they have changed for the worse this much in just a year. I have recommended the hotel to a lot of people based on my past stay a year ago and now I regret that I talked it up so much now that the quality is not up to par. The property is pretty and the rooms are a pretty good size and decorated nicely, but it is pretty far out and not close to any good restaurants. I wouldn't mind at all if the quality was still the same, but now it's not worth the hassle of the extra driving on winding roads at night to get to good restaurants from here. The fresh baked cookies used to be bakery quality and they had a different variety each day (chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, white chocolate chip). Now they seem like Pillsbury cookie dough baked in the front office, it's a sugar cookie and chocolate chip that are greasy and some undercooked, some overcooked, just low quality and nothing to look forward to. Our whole group agreed the quality has declined a lot and the current state is a disappointment. There are plenty of other places to stay that are more convenient to wineries and restaurants in Sonoma or Napa. The gourmet breakfast had really set it apart in my opinion, without that extra amenity, it's lost it's charm for me 😣

I surprised my wife with a trip to the Kenwood Inn and Spa for her birthday. The facility is first-rate and I would highly recommend it. The only problem is that now I have set the birthday expectations of my wife at an incredible level!
